corpsebrigadierTaking this meme from kradeelav because I have long been wanting a nice LJ style meme in my life.
1. How long have you been in fandom?
I was terminally shy/anxious in the 90s-00s, so I don't feel like I was consistently participating in any fandom until 2012 or so. I enjoyed lurking on forums, fic archives, and fansites since a decade before that though.
2. Which fandoms are you in now?
Final Fantasy Tactics still. I wish sometimes I had more of a diverse palette, but after several years I still just want more content for my favorite tropey JRPG sibling misery game.
3. Do you create transformative works (fic, fan art, podfic, etc.)?
Yes! Absolutely. Fic! Art! IF! Webshrines! Cake! I tend to get into whatever I'm into very hard, and I'm psyched to make stuff for it in as many mediums as possible.
4. What was your first fandom?
Various Sierra point and clicks. I loved King's Quest as a very tiny Corpse and kept loving more series as I grew to an age to appreciate them (esp. Gabriel Knight II and baby's first queer werewolf awakening).
5. How often has fic made you cry?
Not very often, honestly. I think the worst I've gotten is a little misty eyed at a few of my own pieces where I had something very targeted to my sense of melancholy/bittersweetness. I suppose reine_des_corbeaux's "Totentanz" also nearly got there if it counts as fic (being an OW piece).
6. Rec a fic that you love!
I feel like it would be very simple to rec either an FFT piece (although check out moemachina or Jaydee_Faire) or something I've received as an exchange gift, as I have done a sweeping review of much of the former category and have had tremendous luck in receiving absolutely exquisite work for the latter. I'm going to comb through my bookmarks and toss out the ficlet "Old Curiosity Shop", as it holds a place in my heart as my favorite crossover I've encountered (Sapphire and Steel/Bagpuss).
7. Who's your ult OTP?
Wiegraf Folles/Zalbag Beoulve is very stupid, and I will never get sick of mashing these two pixelated Barbies together.

9. Have you ever met a fandom friend IRL?
Nope, although I've had irl friends I later learned were in fandom and I've met people at fandom events that I later became fandom friends with.
10. What's the last fandom merch or craft you got?
I bought this fan-designed shirt. I am a dweeb and I want to wear a subtle nod to my favorite faction in an imaginary civil war orchestrated by church demons.
11. Rare pairs, big ships, or gen?
Rarepairs! I will always enjoy the challenge of bringing together two characters who do not meet in canon and finding believable reasons for them to kiss.
12. Are you multi-fandom or mono-fannish?
Very mono-fannish. I tend to get into one canon very hard for several years at a time.
13. When did you last travel for a con, concert, fanmeet, or cupsleeve event?
During 2017 I went to a meetup for Richard Garriott's Ultima series. It was really rad and I made some great friends.
14. How did you get into your current fandom?
I had finished my qualifying exams and after reading a heavy Victorian novel every week for a year, I wanted to turn off my brain for a bit. My partner suggested I replay FFVII, as the remake was coming out. I decided to pass and play FFT, as I didn't remember it well and wanted to give it a try now that I was older.
I got very very hooked.
15. What's your favorite trope?
Is whump in general a trope? If so, I like whump. Just unending misery and ridiculous suffering.
16. What are 3 tags that will make you click no matter what?
If anybody else writes for my OTP, I will be there with bells on. If you bother to tag something "Blasphemy Kink" or some variant of "Enemies to Lovers" with a few twists ("Enemies to Lovers to Enemies," "Enemies to Enemies who Fuck"), I'll be interested in giving it a look at least.
17. Fav fest you've prompted/read/written for?
I really really loved Fortune Favors when it ran, and I feel like my resulting fic is one of my strongest gen pieces.
18. Share an upcoming fest you're excited about!
I am tragically out of the loop as I fumble through directionless post-doctorate life. Someday though... someday.
19. What's your favorite episode, song, moment, etc. from your current fandom?

you remind me I have FFT on my phone and have been meaning to finish it -- got stuck on the first level much like me with vagrant story and need a walkthrough to figure out what's going wrong XD a LOT of people have mentioned it's got some sublime storylines; after I finish FE:Fates it's probably going to be the next targeted one on the list ~

Date: 2023-07-10 05:55 pm (UTC)As for FFT, it's a bit of a mess to figure out at first, and I'll be the first to admit that its million menus and the differences in damage based on elements, weather, zodiac signs, and direction you happen to be facing aren't always intuitive. I hope if you get into it, you'll enjoy its miserable and labyrinthine narrative. :)
(Two biggest pieces of advice everyone advises btw: (1) Expect the difficulty curve to leap up at Dorter Trade City (2) Save before you go to Riovanes Castle and DO NOT OVERWRITE THAT SAVE SLOT ONCE INSIDE.)
