So yeah... the recurring story of my fannish life these days seems to be getting improbably good/obscure/unlikely things in exchanges, and my Chocolate Box experience of two weeks prior was no exception. I ended up with a lot of poignant and/or hilarious undead sex this year, which is--no joke--precisely the most correct and on brand thing for me to wake up and discover on Valentine's Day morning.

My Gifts

"Root and Bone" by [archiveofourown.org profile] karanguni (Propertius 4.7 | Poetic Speaker in Propertius 4.7/Cynthia, Teen, 0.3K): A gorgeously evocative, compact little piece about the poet from Propertius' elegies as an old man, ready to die atop his former lover's grave.

"The Voyage Ends" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Nedrika (Propertius 4.7 | Poetic Speaker in Propertius 4.7/Cynthia, Mature, 1K): It's completely mind blowing that I got two different and completely beautiful Propertius works, but this one also features a graphic account of skeleton sex on the banks of the Styx!

"A Novel Method of Physical Manifestation in a Pair of Subjects" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Nedrika (Original Work | Original Characters, Teen, 2.4K): A completely hilarious account of some Victorian widow on ghost on ghost on widow action written as an article for the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research. This is side-splittingly funny and surprisingly sweet at moments, it was also apparently based on my own piece of rigorous Kantian scholarship, and I now have a completely bizarre original characters' ship.

"The Crucifixion" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Nedrika (Kick Heart | Sister Juliet/Romeo Maki, General, Art): Beautiful, visually striking art of my favorite wresting nun and associate!

My Works

"The Chase" for [archiveofourown.org profile] azurefishnets (Final Fantasy VI | Gau & Umaro, General, Art): Gau riding a sasquatch and rescuing a teddy bear

"Indescribabilites" for [archiveofourown.org profile] phraseme (The 13 Clocks | The Golux & Saralinda... sort of, General, Art): A self-indulgent exercise in drawing weird hats

"Migrations" for [archiveofourown.org profile] neosaiyanangel (Final Fantasy VI | Cyan/Sabin, General, 3.5K): A Gau POV piece focusing on my favorite feral child's two father figures coming together a year after the end of the game

"Pelargonium" for [archiveofourown.org profile] aurilly (Lady Audley's Secret | Robert Audley/George Talboys, Teen, 1K): A short piece in which I address Mary Elizabeth Braddon's failure to arrange for the correct romantic unions at the end of her 1862 sensation novel

"Migrations" for [archiveofourown.org profile] jehane (Gabriel Knight II | Gabriel/Von Glower, Explicit, 5.2K): A short Twine game about the world's finest werewolf boyfriends to feature in a 1990s PC adventure game; contains both a porn ending and a reference to assembling mustaches out of cat hair and honey

Other Neat Stuff

"Forget-Me-Not" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Elleth (The Tea Dragon Society | Greta/Minette, General, 1.6K): A beautiful story about first love; also includes flower symbolism, which I'm an absolute complete sucker for

"A Gentleman of Foreign Parts" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Guinevak (Original Works | Regency Heroine/Tentacle Alien, Mature, 0.5K): A short, hilarious little piece about managing marital expectations

"Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Delphi (Original Works | Speakeasy Bartender/Speakeasy Piano Player, Teen, 8K): A sweet, funny period piece about a man realizing his feelings; includes on point use of historical slang and an accompanying soundtrack.

"Shape of His Heart" by [archiveofourown.org profile] Lirillith (Final Fantasy VI | Edgar/Setzer, Teen, 4.5K): A lovely friends-with-benefits to lovers piece with a killer ending.
