Dear Creator,
Hey. I'm psyched for this exchange because I enjoy the flexibility that song canons afford a creator, and I want to open by saying that I am a staunch proponent of optional details being optional regardless of how many ideas I've thrown about here. I'm excited for whatever you come up with for this particular set of songs, and I really hope you enjoy creating something for them. I've attempted to give a broad set of prompts for songs where I can in the hopes of suggesting a wide range of possibilities, but don't feel hesitant about taking a piece in some direction I didn't anticipate.
I've tend to theme my sign-ups to some degree, and this is a monster mash set of requests with one oddball time-traveling cat song thrown in. I'm a horror fan on both the kitchy B-movie level and on the deeply chilling hardcore creepiness level, so feel free to make things as scary or un-scary as you see fit. Also, if you're inspired to do so, I'm pretty open to crossovers, given that every song is a supernatural/monster narrative of some sort. I just really like monsters a lot and will welcome more than one in a fanwork.
Lastly, thank you very much for creating something on my behalf. I dig this exchange concept a lot, and I really look forward to somebody taking one of these songs somewhere interesting!

Dick Valentine has introduced this as “a song about the ecstasy of accepting Satan as your master,” and I would very much like a fanwork about the ecstasy of accepting Satan as your master. There’s a sense of the end times and the joyful absurdity of the apocalypse throughout the song, and I love the juxtaposition of the bright, danceable music and the sense of a burning world where the speaker is plunging into the service of Lucifer.
For fic, I’d really like something that leans into the dystopian/apocalyptic feel and shows a world on the verge or the thick of ruin. This could be an apocalypse set in our future--something with a world war, or something cyberpunky, or something that literally plays with apocalyptic prophecies a la the Book of Revelations (some high tech number of the beast stuff might be cool). I’d also be up for a historical setting. The mention of the burning sky makes me think this song could lend itself to a cold war nuclear apocalypse feel rife with gas masks and fallout shelters, although if you’re willing to write something a little out of sync with the feel of the song and some of its lyrics, I would love something involving the ecstatic sense of end times during the black death--I am a complete sucker for plague stories (although I more than understand if people are not in the mood for that these days). If you’re really interested in something weird, I’m also a sucker for fin de siecle settings, and something that plays into the decadence and sense of decay in the 1890s would be 110% my jam (If you’re familiar with Marie Corelli’s Sorrows of Satan, I’m bizarrely in love with the idea of combining that work’s ideas with this set of lyrics… even if I don’t think it’s a particularly good novel)
For the character of Satan himself, I’d like something that leans into the idea of him being an “evil trend setter.” I’d love a Satan that functions as a seductive gentleman of taste in whatever time/place he inhabits. A charismatic cult leader, a visionary celebrity, a high society sexual predator: all these would make excellent Satans.
For art, this is a good piece to have something colorful and maybe even a little psychedelic. To throw out some ideas, I’d be up for a city on fire with rainbow hues and full of hands-in-the air cultists, a jaunty devil in evening wear inviting you to watch the apocalypse with him, or the ecstatic speaker just being full of the joy at his own damnation.
I’m up for E-rated works involving the devil, who I’d really like to be a man for the purposes of this work. I have a massive thing for blasphemy and sacrilege, so something that involves the destruction or abandonment of symbols of faith would be incredibly up my alley. If you want to make the speaker a priest or man of religion getting off to his own loss of faith, I would dig that very much.

Twin Temple, which bills itself as “Satanic Doo-wop,” completely rocks out with its over-the-top Hammer Horror vibes. I would love something here that just revels in its black velvet and sharp eyeliner aesthetic--something where I can envision hot lady Satan as spitting orangey fake blood all over a flustered Peter Cushing.
In terms of fic, I really just want a sort of B-movie, sexy female Satan ensorceling adherents (male or female) with her sultry doo-wop ways. She can be from any era in any guise, but I feel that that era should feel like it was filmed circa 1979 and that that guise should possibly involve a beehive. Whether she is seducing young ingenues in 1979 Victorian London or seducing upright family men in the 1979 1950s, I would like her to be an unrepentant Luciferian femme fatale who makes falling into perdition seem fun, sexy, and probably the right choice for whomever is being seduced.
If you want to introduce conflict by having some exorcist or demon hunter who is not down with hot lady Satans, please feel free to introduce them and feel free to have them also be seduced. Everyone can honestly get seduced by this Satan. If you want to go second person/IF/readerfic/etc, feel free to invite me to be seduced by lady Satan.
As for art, if ever that was a song that lent itself to something pin-up-esque, it was this one. I am fine with something that evokes a specific scene of female Lucifer empowerment or seduction. I am fine with an isolated, tattoo-art style image of our Lady and Mistress of the dark. Please feel free to add in as many baphomet style goats, upside down crosses, and other kitchy Satanic imagery as your heart may desire.
E-rated works are fine and dandy. Anything that involves blasphemy/sacrilege in particular (particularly of a Catholic flavor) is my jam.

This is a song about a widower vampire vigilante (or at least it sure sounds like a song about a widower vampire vigilante), and this is a song for which I’d generally just like a straightforward narrative exploration of the lyrics. For fic, I’m interested in any sort of cool expansion of the details. What does it mean for the character to have been a “healing holy man?” Was he some sort of clergy (a Catholic deacon might be cool, as Catholics and vampires go excellently together and deacons are permitted to marry)? Was he gifted with some sort of healing magic? What was “the crime” that ruined his life with his wife? (I’d theoretically be open to something more complex than “She got murdered by vampires” although vampires are rather obviously involved.) What happened at the campsite grounds and at the Mexican border town?” Most importantly, whose blood is being imbibed like so much lemonade?
I nominated the song and not the music video, but if you’re interested in taking plot points/imagery from the music video, I’m not going to say no. If you go that route, I’d really be interested by importing the seemingly old age of the main character, exploring what the heck is up with that kid with the blocks, and/or looking to the creepy implication that he--himself--was responsible for whatever happened to his wife.
If you really really really feel that this song is not--in fact--about a vampire and the lyrics are metaphorical (or refer to non-vampiric blood drinking), this last idea might be a really neat possibility to explore, as framing this with some manner of unreliable narration and recasting the protagonist as an unrelenting serial killer lying to himself about his own motivations could have a lot of chilling potential. Given the general opacity of the events described, I’d be really into a lot of different takes on the narrative, and as always, I’m up for experimental formats. If you’re interested in things like outsider POV, epistolary fiction, or IF, this might be a really cool narrative (unreliable or no, vampiric or not) to play around with using those.
As for art, I’d love something bleak, possibly sepia toned, and potentially full of stylish blood. If you want to just illustrate the song title, with some trenchcoat-wearing badass sipping a glass of something red through a straw, I’m down for it. I’d also really enjoy something that looks to some sort of desolate desert landscape (near the campground or the border town) with the characters and their actions shown as relatively small figures against the backdrop of the cruel and unforgiving natural world.
I’m not so interested in E-rated works for this song, although I’m definitely accepting of some mentions of sex if its a part of the gritty, tragic narrative you might weave from these lyrics. I’d just prefer that sex not be the focus of a fanwork and I should note that I’m really not into anything depicting graphic rape of the wife if you decide “the crime” involves that.

Right, so the interpretation I’ve always heard regarding these lyrics is that they concern a vampire in a plane pursuing their human beloved in a plane such that the former is always following the earth’s rotation such that its night and the latter is always following the earth’s rotation such that it’s day. Even if this is some sort of lie and there is another way to read these lyrics, it is a lie of which I really approve, and I would like content involving the endless pursuit of somebody by their vampire pilot suitor. I’m a complete sucker for moments in which a character or characters are saddled with a stupid overwhelming desire for a connection they can’t quite have, and the idea of being perpetually seperated by somebody by the motions of celestial bodies is just an A+, phenomenal, right-up-my-alley idea.
For fic, I’d be down for an exploration of the lovers’ past. The lines “we have walked in ancient times” and “you have become like other men” seem to imply that the human pilot was once immortal, and some story about how they became mortal and had some sort of break up resulting in this wacky plane scenario would be great. A sort of “come and get me” relationship tracked through history would be interesting here, and feel free to play around with chronology and format if you want to communicate a disjointed sense of memory and time in that fashion.
Alternatively, I’d really really enjoy something about the vampire’s burning desire to have that final kiss. Airports are already bizarre locations full of thresholds, and the wistful sense of being in an airport your lover has just departed, surrounded by the surreal convenience stores and massage chairs and whatnot, would have the exact sort of mundane but mournful feeling I love. Bonus points if a random traveller is exsanguinated in a bathroom as an understated afterthought to the angst. If you really want to get melodramatic, having the two of them finally meet at some twilight moment and share a kiss would be excellent, particularly if the sun rises and it's a kiss that terminates in the vampire dissolving into ash.
For art, that last idea for a scene I mentioned would be a choice thing to illustrate. I’m also really interested in something that just goes whole hog with the sun/moon imagery and shows the day melting into night as one plane pursues another. Something showing one lover accompanied by sun imagery and one lover accompanied by moon imagery is also the sort of completely basic thing I’d eat up with a spoon. Lots of blue and an awkward sense of the dissonance between a vampire narrative and a focus on sunlight could also be a fun feature with which to work.
Feel free to give the composition a feel from the Lush cover of the song and to make one or both of the characters women if you so choose. I’m here for vampires of any gender or orientation. I’m theoretically okay with E-rated works, although I’d like it if the lonely, desperate, forever apart feeling of the song isn’t undercut by the togetherness of any sex. As for actual smut, I’m really into undead sex insofar as there’s a difference in biological realities and an undead body can and cannot do things a living body can. Temperature difference descriptions focusing on how searingly hot a normal human body feels from a cold undead perspective will always be searingly hot for me.

This song is either about a werewolf or about the world-destroying villain of Transformers: The Movie who proved to be Orson Welles swansong performance--or it could even be about both! I would personally like some sense of the lycanthropic to be involved because werewolves are sexy and nihilistic self-loathing werewolves are even sexier. The gist of things in this song, if you aren’t familiar with it, is that the speaker hates nature, hates themselves, and ends saying they are a werewolf: it’s pretty straightforward and visceral.
In terms of fic, I would love something that just deals with a werewolf hating itself and the natural world. Pile on the werewolf angst. I’d be into something that plays into how this werewolf sees its own curse of uncontrolled bloodlust as being tied to the natural order of the world it wishes to destroy. Playing on the lines “I want to be a big ball of meat/That bees can buzz around and eat/And feast on my liver and rot out my teeth/And chew on my eyeballs until I'm deceased” would be a great way to flip its angst at being a predator into a self-annihilating desire to be preyed upon. I’m also really interested in the line “I want nature to spit in my mouth” and the sort of simultaneous desire and disdain between the speaker and nature.
Alternatively, if we matched on this song (or even if we didn’t) and you are dead set on this fic being about a world devouring robot, please feel welcome to go that route, even if you haven’t watched the Transformers movie. Even if you have, I barely remember the film, and will gladly accept whatever Transformers facts you make up. I would enjoy a take on how Unicron feels about the lives of planets as opposed to the lives of the individual entities he devours, and how his disdain/despair translates into being an entity that devours life on such a massive scale beyond normal human (or robot) reckoning. The moment when the good robot from the movie throws the bad robot from the movie into a power generator and Unicron dies might be a good point from which to meditate on the dynamics of death, hatred, and consumption.
Lastly, if you really want to write about a combination giant-robot-werewolf, go for it. My impulse here is to suggest that you could combine the idea of a giant planet eating monster and the basic elements of lycanthropy into a bizarre 80s children’s cartoon style take on some mythological wolf figure that eats the moon (I believe the Norse Hati Hróðvitnisson or the Romanian vârcolac both qualify). Alternatively, you could explore a world in which the worlds, people, and/or robots Unicron eats are in turn transformed into werewolf robot planets themselves that spread their plague throughout the cosmos. Things are just pretty weird, though, if we’re already in the realm of werewolf robots. Do as thou wilt.
In terms of art, I would deeply enjoy something that hits the aggressive folk punk feel of AJJ: something I could transfer to a patch and put on the jacket I wear while absconding with produce from a Whole Foods dumpster. A composition that has a stark, single color design reminiscent of a woodblock or graffiti stencil would be ideal. This is the medium in which I think something that involves the speaker of the song as a combination-giant-robot-werewolf works really well. If you draw a combination robot werewolf doing something rad like bulldozing a rainforest or looking into a mirror sobbing, that would be superb. If you just want to keep it as just a wolf or a robot, though, I’d aim for anything that is stylized such as to be indicative of its hatred/grief. I’d be pretty open here to depictions of a wolf devouring itself or a robot disassembling itself in self-hating despair. Feel free to go wild with gore/body horror for artwork of this song if it's your thing.
I’m open to E-rated works for this, and I’m open to them being pretty horrifying/gory. I’d prefer them to focus on a werewolf or hybridized werewolf/robot however than just focusing on a robot. (I like a good robot fucking as much as the next person, but transformers aren’t my thing--adding lycanthropy to the mix though, makes pretty much anything hot enough to be porn worthy). My suggestion if you are up for some lycanthropic porn is to either reconfigure Nature as a personified entity that can fuck and be fucked by the speaker or to have the speaker have some sort of lethal sexual encounter with a victim that sends them into the spiral of hatred and disgust we hear in the song.
Request Specific DNWs: I feel that this request really lends itself to vore, and I’m relatively okay with that. I’m not a fan of soft vore, however, and I would like entities who are eaten to generally die. If somebody has to get eaten alive for plot reasons in a robot scenario, I would like them to exist in Unicron’s belly in a non-erotic way.

Whereas “Unicron” is about how much it sucks to be a werewolf, this song is about how incredibly hot it is to be a werewolf. This is the song to have unhinged werewolf sex to, and I would really love a work communicating the intensity of lycanthropic lust/bloodlust. I nominated the song and not the music video, but you should feel free to incorporate elements of the video if you feel inspired by that particular narrative of lycanthropy. I’m open to something that plays around with the softer, slower Lera Lynn cover of the song. For all fanworks though, I’m most interested in something that communicates the feverish nature of a lycanthropic transformation and/or sexual desire.
For fic, this is a great piece for first times: either involving a werewolf suffering their first change, a couple navigating their first time having sex, or a combination of the two. A basic horror film style narrative that opens with “Hey, lets have really hot sex where I bite you” and ends with “Shit, now it seems I’m biting everyone” would be fine here. Something where somebody intentionally turns their lover for the sake of having a werewolf companion is great, although I’d also be interested in a story of two horny teen werewolves coming together and having the first change come upon them at the same time. A scenario in which one lover is a werewolf and the other lover isn’t transformed but is really into crazy wolf sex could also be interesting. I am totally game for something involving messed up gore/death/non-con involving a transformation mid sex such that all the lyrics take on a possessive/sinster tone.
This song is perfect for some sort of whirlwind, poorly thought out tryst/romance where everything happens too fast and everything is intense and full of sensation overriding thought (“We could jet in a stolen car / but we wouldn’t get too far” is a great starting point for this). Narrative impediments like concerned parents/roommates, werewolf hunters, and the normal everyday authorities who are sick of people being fuck-devoured would be a great counterpoint to the action of the speaker and the addressee in the song, and this might be a great route to go if you’re up for something less porny and more narrative dense. If you are interested in doing some flat out PWP here, however, this is definitely a song where I’m up for it. I should note that I am completely happy with something that is not explicit at all.
For art, I’m open to something E-rated, but the thing I’m most interested in is a composition that conveys the frenetic, crazed intensity of the lyrics. This is a piece where it would be really neat to play around with somewhat abstract, fever-dream type depictions of lycanthropy.

I really really really love this song. This is because I am a complete sucker for anything with a focus on wistful, incomplete points of contact between characters and because, however I might feel about Momus as a person/artist, I will forever adore the convoluted, bizarre narratives that so many of his pieces have. If you’re not familiar with this work, it is an almost love story about a Kamakura era samurai (or a reincarnation thereof) and the reincarnation of his neglected mistress who became a cat. Sadly, the cat/woman did not end up reincarnating at the same time as her beloved, and lives in a dystopic future full of pollution and spoilage from which she travels back in time via an “electronic catflap” to see her ex and say hello.
In terms of fiction, I would love to see anything about the two characters, past, present or future. I would enjoy a snapshot of the two as lovers in Japan, with some hint as to their distant relationship and the woman's future as a lonely time-travelling cat. I would enjoy a piece on the cold, mouseless, dystopian world the cat inhabits before she travels back in time and how she longs for the warmth and familiarity of an era with “tearooms and temples” (and feel free to go a little dark with some Plague Dogs/Felidae style notes if you want to lean into the line “cats are just guinea pigs”). I would enjoy something about the two of them at the moment of the song, meeting in different forms but still having some sense of interlinked fates. Something that drifts between these three discrete time periods would also be delightful. As I’m a big fan of experimental fanworks and writing styles, I’d be up for things that are achronological, involve outsider perspective (some confused scientist recording cat-related temporal distortions, maybe?), or generally just play around with form.
In terms of art, I’d love something minimalist. Something in the fashion of historical Japanese compositions that make a lot of use of blank space or something that focuses on the dark, cold, colorless imagery of the future would be great. I’d also appreciate something that shows the moment where the addressee of the song sees the cat nosing into their yard or home. I personally headcanon the cat as either being white or black and white and very sleek/small/ghostly, but go with whatever cat you envision. A cat with a disfigurement like a missing eye or limb could be particularly chilling, if you’re interested in playing with the potentials of animal experimentation.
I should note that I have no preferences as to the gender of the beloved or the cat at the time of the song. If you want to pick up on a different set of emotional notes from a different singer with a different gender, feel free to use the Kahimi Karie version of the song as a starting point.
I’m theoretically open to E-rated works, although I’m not into penetrative cat-fucking. If for some reason you hear this song and are filled with an immediate desire to write bizarre future cat ghost on presumable human being pornography, I might recommend something involving the narrator engaging in a melancholic sad fap as over overwhelmed by intangible half memories. Their invasive mystery cat can watch and perhaps wistfully curl its tail around their leg.
Request Specific DNWs: Penetrative cat sex.

I Have the Moon - The Magnetic Fields (Song)
Youtube | Lyrics linkART or FIC

Werewolves
Unicron - AJJ (Song)
Youtube | Lyrics linkART or FIC

Wolf Like Me - TV on the Radio (Song)
Youtube | Lyrics linkART or FIC
This is a piece where it would be really neat to play around with somewhat abstract, fever-dream type depictions of lycanthropy.

...And a Catgirl
A Cat From the Future - Momus (Song)
Youtube | Lyrics linkART or FIC
