Happy beheading of St. Valentinus to those who celebrate. Also, I'm almost feeling like a normal human person again.

Post-defense has been surreal as my life unanchors itself from The Project (and I just got the head's up that my director will sign off on my revisions if I correct three sentence level issues).

I've been hitting up museums and lectures and milking my last semester of student discounts like mad. My house is very clean. I'm almost up to baking something ridiculous again (my parents got me an airbrush kit for the holidays that I've been itching to try out). I treated myself to a solo date this morning wandering through my city's botanical gardens before getting a small ice cream, and one whole butterfly in the rain forest biome deigned to let me photograph it.

I'm a little anxious about the (non-academic) job hunt I intend soon to embark upon, and I've got a spate of family events/visits that will probably be a little overwhelming. However, I'm generally just enjoying the crash in plummeting stress levels for what it is, and I think that I'll probably like post-doctoral life a great deal.

I'm going to attempt some homemade pasta tonight and maybe pen some letters to friends and ill-advised shipfic. It all seems very seasonally appropriate.

(PS: For those of you who enjoy particularly ill-advised shipfic, I did write a birthday piece this year, and it's about as vile as my last several pieces featuring my fave have been.)
