Snowflake Challenge #4: Goals

Challenge #4: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My actual big need-to-get-it-done goals for the year are that I need to bash out the first chapter and a half of a dissertation and submit one of my very insightful smart articles to some sort of journal. Most of my other goals, however, are designed to help me maintain some semblance of sanity while I work on those. 

I'm going to try to read two books that have nothing to do with my field each month and watch a movie I've never seen every weekend; I'm also going to commit to running three times a week...even if its just a mile or so each time. I really want to get back in the habit of consuming media that isn't pertinent to my research, as I believe getting back into the habit of being exposed to varied types of writing and reading will make all this scholarship a little bit easier and--frankly--better on a prose level. Running is also really just massively relaxing even if I am super slow and plodding.

As for fannish/creative goals, I really want to try to put together a cosplay piece involving some new crafting skills for a con at the beginning of summer, I want to put in some work actually outlining and drafting an original fiction work I've had on my mind for a while, and I want to get at least a full set of sketches for one of the multi-part FFT art projects that also lives in my brain. I imagine I'll make a lot of other fanworks along the way, but I was pretty prolific for the second half of last year, and I think its best to focus on a few discrete projects than on word counts at this point. I'll be writing a lot no matter what I do.
